Stacey Romney Dahlberg

Stacey Romney Dahlberg is a vocalist and educator whose musical prowess is deeply rooted in the culture, traditions, and storytelling of her native México. She grew up in Colonia Juárez, Chihuahua, a small community nestled in the Sierra Madres and surrounded by orchards and cattle ranches. Though she has lived in Utah for many years, Stacey still considers this remote corner of northern México “Home.”

From an early age, Stacey was drawn to the many art forms that celebrate México’s rich cultural heritage. Her father, a México native, and her mother, a native of southwestern Virginia, nurtured her love of music, particularly the storytelling traditions found in Mexican Rancheras, Bluegrass, and American Country music. For more than six years during her adolescence, they made the remarkable commitment to drive her across the international border to El Paso, Texas, every weekend for voice lessons—a six-hour round trip.

After moving to Utah in the early 2000s, Stacey’s musical curiosity led her to American Jazz and Blues, where she found another powerful expression of storytelling, tradition, and authenticity. She received a Vocal Performance scholarship to Brigham Young University’s School of Music, studying classical voice under Dr. Clayne Robison. In 2003, the arrival of renowned jazz vocalist Kelly Eisenhour at BYU opened a new musical door. Under Eisenhour’s mentorship, Stacey discovered a natural home in the jazz language and ultimately became one of only three vocalists in the history of BYU’s Jazz Studies Program to graduate from the program, earning her degree in 2006.

After graduation, Stacey embarked on a successful career with a Fortune 500 Logistics and Fresh Produce company, eventually serving in leadership roles within the company’s Fresh Produce division. Her upbringing in an agricultural community made the work a natural fit, allowing her to draw on a world she had known since childhood. Throughout her decade-plus career in logistics, however, music remained an important part of her life. She continued to perform at events, including a featured appearance at the ANTAD Expo in Guadalajara with one of the city’s premier Mariachi groups.

After years of extensive travel and demanding schedules, Stacey ultimately chose to settle down with her husband, Wayne Dahlberg, and return to music full-time. In 2018, she resumed teaching private voice lessons, discovering a renewed passion for mentoring young singers and musicians.

That same year, Stacey began nearly five years of intensive mentorship with renowned saxophonist and educator David Halliday. During this period, she shared her vision of creating an album that would unite the timeless language of jazz with the rich melodies and poetry of the Mexican bolero. Halliday embraced the idea, offering to produce the project under the Lone Peak Sound label and bringing together some of Utah’s finest musicians. Along with Philip Khuen, he arranged each song to preserve the cultural character and Spanish-language integrity of the original music while giving it a distinctly jazz-infused sound.

The result is Nostalgia, Stacey’s deeply personal tribute to Mexico, to the music that shaped her, and to the people who supported her journey. The album honors her parents, husband, grandparents, family, friends, mentors, and the many “tías” who helped make her who she is.

Stacey has headlined two “Excellence in the Community” concerts in Salt Lake City and Ogden, UT performing live arrangements of many of the tunes featured in her upcoming debut album. 

Stacey’s debut single, “México Lindo y Querido,” was released September 15, 2026, in celebration of México’s Independence Day. Her full album, Nostalgia, is scheduled for release in early 2027.
